The first movement of the anonymous TOURNAI MASS, probably the work of several different composers (none of whom has been definitely identified), and thought to date in its final form from around 1320. This is the earliest known polyphonic Mass setting (though the earliest known polyphonic Mass setting by a single composer remains Guillaume de Machaut's somewhat later MESSE DE NOTRE DAME). The present performance is from a 1967 LP on the Telefunken level which seems never to have made it to CD. Konrad Ruhland conducts the singers and instrumentalists of the Munich Capella Antiqua.
