Dune du Pilat in Arcachon, France - The Largest Sand Dune in Europe

Wow! Who would have imagined the Dune du Pilat exists in France? The longer we live here, the more we get to travel around the country and explore. There's really so much diversity France has to offer in landscapes and terrain, but this one is completely unexpected!

We were in the area, just outside Bordeaux, in Arcachon, for a wedding. Unfortunately, the weather this particular week had been quite rainy and gloomy. We were crossing our fingers for the bride and groom to have good weather. When we got to town, Doug and I went to check out the dunes because there happened to be a break in the rain. Luckily, we were able to have fun and explore. I even did a non-rain dance for the bride and groom to ward off the rain... just wait, you'll see. :p

The bride wanted to take her group to explore the dunes that evening. The weather was still quite suspect, but her group knew it meant a lot to them, so everyone put their coats on and away we went. When we arrived it seemed like the sky was going to open up upon us. The wind was INSANE!! Right as we got to the top of the stairs I thought we were going to get blown off this sand dune mountain -- you'll see!! (For my fans of a loooonnnnggg time, there's even an NBSN news update - the No BS Network. This started back in the day when they were over sensationalizing the weather report in New Orleans during a hurricane - after Hurricane Katrina.)

But, all is well that ends well, don't miss the ending and the mini photo session that ended up getting to take place before we left.

This year, 2020, has been challenging for everyone. Being with this group of people, on that dune, really made me feel alive again. It was an experience I'm grateful to have had, and also thankful I have this travel vlog if you will to share a taste of the dunes. If you travel to France, I'd definitely put this on your list.
