Here’s another one of my favourite storybooks for young English language learners.

Dear Zoo by Rod Campbell is a classic lift-the-flap book.

It’s the story of a child who writes a letter to the zoo asking for pet. The zoo sends a seletion of boxes each containing a different animal – a giraffe, an elephant, a monkey etc.

The storybook’s colourful illustrations, simple and repetitive text help ESL students comprehend and memorise the language and the fun lift-the-flaps bring elements of surprise and guess work. It's a book that instantly gets students engaged and actively participating in the telling of the story.

Great for reviewing colours and animals and introducing adjectives big, tall, fierce, grumpy, scary, naughty, jumpy, perfect.

It’s an oldie but goldie and a must for every ESL classroom bookshelf :)
