[SICPE - Philosophical Anthropology] Jove Jim Aguas on Martin Buber (19 June 2019)

This lecture is part of the Philosophical Anthropology Lecture and Workshop Series last 17 to 21 June 2019, as part of "Special Intensive Courses for Philosophy Educators," a two-year Continuing Professional Education (CPE) program organized by the Department of Philosophy of the Faculty of Arts and Letters, University of Santo Tomas, and funded by the Philippine Commission on Higher Education.

Dr. Aguas started his lecture by introducing the elements of existential anthropology and personalism in Martin Buber’s philosophy of dialogue. He compared some of the similarities of the philosophy of dialogue with philosophers such as Gabriel Marcel and Karol Wojtyla. Dr. Aguas highlighted the thrust of Buber’s philosophical anthropology as a response to the existential crisis of man. Man’s social nature includes a subjective value and an objective value and Buber’s philosophy of dialogue revolves around resolving this existential conundrum by finding the middle ground between concrete and abstract realities of humanity. During and after the lecture, the participants were actively asking questions and Dr. Aguas was more than happy to respond and satisfy the queries. After the lecture, we proceeded with the workshop section of the program and assisted the participants in the development of their course/lesson plan.
