Chapter 1 of great Expectations by Charles Dickens. Great Expectations by Charles Dickens is one of many English literature books that I had to read so many years ago in High School. Very little did I get from this book then, yet I have always known this was a beautiful book, because the main character has been stuck in my mind since then.

Years later I have gone back to read it again, finally decided to make it easier and more interesting for those still at high school by combining water sounds and the book's audio and created a kind of relaxation videos. On completion of this work, videos in this format, it has taken me less than two weeks to go through the whole book. Something that I could not do during all of my high school days. I am hoping this will assist today's student and the older reader who has decided to revisit this beautiful classic. In this chapter we meet Philip Pirrip known as Pip, who is the main character as he is visiting the graveyard were most of his family is laid to rest. We get to know that he lives with his mean-spirited sister his only surviving sibling married to Joe Gargery, a simple kindhearted loyal blacksmith.
At the graveyard he meets a scary old man with an iron around his legs who tosses him around and threatens him to get him some food from his home. He is to bring the food back the following morning or else his younger companion will come during the night and rip out his heart and liver. Terrified Pip swears he will comply.
