Here is a very interesting addition to the collection to celebrate the 1K subs stage. It is based on the same-named book by Tatsuhiro Ooshiro. That colorful Okinawan novelist also reinvented a form of traditional narrative dance, which is a really nice fact. I assume this movie was a way to exorcise pain for the victims, ten years after the departure of the US Army from Okinawa in 1982. This is the kind of movie which keeps me going, as it is so unconventional in comparison to the mainstream body of works released at the time. Tsushima Maru Sayounara Okinawa is another one of these emergency inductions. Indeed, anidb has zero rip listing for it. This Mina anime went for high realism, contrasting the content's serious approach with the stylistic character deformation of art director Kazutoshi Shimizu. You probably know him for the background art of countless A-list productions, from "Akira" to "Nobody's Boy Remi". At the directorial position, Osamu Kobayashi. He is a veteran, whose career started right after the great Toei split starting the Early Television age, in 1963. He was a rookie alongside Hayao Miyazaki, before he joined Shin-Ei animation, mostly known for their adaptations of Fujiko F. Fujio's works. Then, he co-founded subcontractor studio Ajia-dou, still in activity to this day. He is not to be confused with his defunct homonym, a younger illustrator, mechanical designer, animator and anime director (Beck, Paradise Kiss, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann...).
