Plants vs. Zombies, a video game series by PopCap Games under Electronic Arts (EA), follows the adventures of Crazy Dave and friends defending against zombies led by Dr. Zomboss using plants. The first game, launched in 2009 pre-EA acquisition, garnered attention with the release of the music video "Zombies on Your Lawn" on April 1, 2009. PopCap generated excitement by offering a 30-minute demo and officially launched the game on May 5, 2009, for PC and Mac. By 2013, it transitioned to a free-to-play model on iPhones and Androids.

EA acquired PopCap Games for 750 million USD in 2011, prompting a shift to mobile and social gaming in 2012, resulting in employee layoffs. Despite uncertainties, PopCap announced and released Plants vs. Zombies 2: It's About Time in 2013, introducing new elements like locations, plants, and the plant food power-up.

In July 2019, EA revealed Plants vs. Zombies 3, initially testing on Android in July 2019 and later in selected countries in February 2020. Although it went offline in October 2020, the game returned on September 7, 2021, with updates including two-dimensional graphics and the return of the Sunflower. Fans celebrated the revival of the beloved series, showcasing the enduring popularity of Plants vs. Zombies.
