Today I'm showing you how to make a super easy bubble bath powder. And it makes tons of bubbles. Bubble bath powder shouldn’t be soft, or moist, or clump together. It should be extra dry & coarse so it pours easily & evenly. This is a very "loose" recipe. Which means it doesn’t have to be exactly like mine to get the same results.
RECIPE: 1/2 cup baking soda, 1/2 cup citric acid, 1/4 cup Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate (SLSa), 15 milliliters fragrance, 5 milliliters PEG-40 hydrogenated castor oil, 20 milliliters cocamidopropyl betaine. ******The citric acid is very important; it adds a grainy, coarse texture (that doesn’t easily clump). But more importantly, when it's wet it reacts with the baking soda & allows the mix to dry hard & course. The SLSa is responsible for all those bubbles! You can use a different “bubble bath-maker” like, sodium lauryl sulfate, or sodium cocoyl isethionate, or sodium coco sulfate. You may change the amount; add more for more bubble power. But you may have to adjust the recipe. NOTE: Wet ingredients are not added for a specific reason pertaining to how the bubble bath powder performs. You can replace any liquid ingredient with the same amount of a different liquid - even water. Just add enough to activate the baking soda & citric acid so the mixture puffs up. *** I recommend fluid liquids that dry well (water, cocamidopropyl betaine, liquid castile soap, etc.). As oppose to heavy liquids that don’t dry well (carrier oil, melted butter, or polysorbates). For the emulsifier (to emulsify fragrance & water together) I used PEG-40 hydrogenated castor oil because it’s an emulsifier & also a foam booster. You may use polysorbate 20 or 80. Use ANY surfactant. I used cocamidopropyl betaine because it’s a great co-surfactant, boosting bubble bath power & allowing the bubbles to last longer.
DIRECTIONS: Sieve & mix dry ingredients together. Mix wet ingredients together separately. Mix fragrance oil & the emulsifier together, but depending on ingredients, you may not want to mix in the surfactant. If I mixed all of my wet together the liquid would become a thick blob. The wet should remain in a fluid state so it wets the dry ingredients better. Add wet to dry & mix. The more puffy, the better! Spread it out to quicken drying time. Dry 24 hours then break up clumps to speed up drying. Allow it to dry completely; it may take a few days. You can also add more citric acid for a dryer, coarser texture. Once dry, sieve mixture. You can also use a blender to get smaller, more uniform powder. CUSTOMIZE: Keep in mind the colors you choose will mix & make a specific color in the water, so choose colors that create appealing colors when mixed together. [Pink & blue = purple-colored water]. PACKAGING: Pack the mix at an angle for diagonal layers. Pack & fill the container all the way so layers aren't disturbed during travel. Powder should last 6 months or longer.
