Hej, Haj Brigade! (Hey, hey Brigades!) - Yugoslavian Brigadier/Pioneer song
Описание
The song "Hej, Haj Brigade" was written in 1974 by Arsen Dedić and sung by Ivice Bobinca.
It was later broadcasted by the JRT in 1976, it grew more popular and became the anthem of the ORA - "Omladinska Radna Akcija" or literally translated to "Youth Work Actions" in the 70s.
The ORA were a mass series of organized works and labour activities conducted mainly by young teenage volunteers who were called "Akcijaši" or Actioners. They were split into ORBs - "Omladinska Radna Brigada" or Youth Labour/Working Brigades, and they were named after their town or a local national hero.
They built mostly railways, high-ways, factories and even whole cities at times. The purpose of the ORA was to rebuild post-WWII Yugoslavia. However, with the eventual recovery of the Yugoslavian nation and various technological advancements, activities of the ORA ended in the late 1950s with a few exceptions such as railways and other projects that were unfinished.
Their activities were started up again in the 70s primarily because of political reasons, to promote the Yugoslavian government. As such, the ORA left a significant impact on the popular culture of the Former SFR of Yugoslavia and the people who lived in those times today.
This song deals a great sense of nostalgia to the people who participated in the actions of the ORA as the volunteers (the akcijaši) woke up listening to and singing this song each morning.
Also I'm aware that the English translation isn't exactly the greatest but I couldn't find any English translated lyrics of this song so I attempted to make my own.
