Whether you're a seasoned hiker or new to the trails, Watkins Glen State Park offers a spiritual connection to the world around you. As we explore this sacred landscape, we're reminded of the verse, 'The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.' (Psalm 19:1)

As we hike up the Gorge Trail, we see many exposed rock layers that were laid down by water. These layers remind us of Noah's Flood, where God's judgment came against a sinful world. The Bible tells us that the flood was a catastrophic event, reshaping the global landscape into the mountains, valleys, rivers, and lakes that we see today.

By contrast, the beauty of the gorge reminds us of God's grace. God gives each of us a chance to escape the coming judgment through the salvation provided by his son, Jesus. By the grace of God, we can each receive forgiveness, become a new creation, and escape the coming judgment.

The Bible says, "In the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires.
They deliberately forget that long ago by God’s word the heavens came into being and the earth was formed out of water and by water. By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed. By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly." (2 Peter 3:3,5-7)
