🛕Exploring Faith Communities: Seventh-day Adventists in the Nizhny Novgorod Region

Our journey through the Protestant traditions of the Nizhny Novgorod Region continues with a closer look at the Seventh-day Adventist community. We visited two key locations: the Christian Cultural Center and the Central Church.

⏺️First Stop: The Christian Cultural Center

Built during the Soviet era as a cultural center for a metallurgical plant, the building was acquired by the Adventist community in the 1990s. Today, it houses the Nizhnyaya Church, founded in 1992 following an evangelistic program led by preacher John Carter. Worship services take place every Saturday at 10:00 a.m., with online streaming available.

The center is now a vibrant community hub, hosting concerts, Bible courses, health exhibitions, theatrical performances, music festivals, and youth services.

Children’s development is another important focus. Through the Adventure Seekers and Pathfinders clubs, young members enjoy activities inspired by the Scout movement, enriched with Christian values.

▶️The Three Angels television network is also based here. We explored its studio and learned how programs are produced. Alongside religious content, the channel covers health, family life, parenting, and education, reaching a broad audience.

⏺️Second Stop: The Central Church

We then visited the Central Church on Shevchenko Street, where the congregation celebrated its 115th anniversary with a special ceremony attended by representatives of local authorities.

Seventh-day Adventist beliefs are rooted in the Bible and shape the community’s approach to everyday life. Saturday is observed as the Sabbath — a day of rest and worship, reflected in the denomination’s name.

Beyond worship services, the congregation runs ministries dedicated to Sabbath School, youth, media, health, and family life. It organizes cultural and educational events, supports charitable initiatives, and promotes healthy living and traditional family values.

A particularly meaningful feature of Shevchenko Street is that places of worship representing three Christian denominations stand side by side — a striking example of peaceful religious coexistence.
