The DADGAD tuning is very suitable for playing some types of folk music especially Scottish and Irish celtic music.
Wayfaring Stranger has been recorded by many famous artists over the years including the likes of Neil Young, Eva Cassidy, Ed Sheering and Johnny Cash.
It was very popular during the American civil war but is thought to have originated in Germany and was a German language hymn called "Ein pilgrim bin auch ich auf Erden" by Isssac Niswander.
